For: Laboratory Supervisor

Location: Wrexham

Hours: Monday - Friday days

Salary: £25,000-£29,000p/a

Ref: VR/00180

You will be required to ensure the company maintains the highest standards of quality in all aspects of manufacturing and the supply chain by a hands on approach to process and quality improvement in the factories. To react quickly and professionally to any potential issue to avoid customer complaints.

To educate and train all staff in the right first time philosophy by maintaining a constant awareness of quality checks, records and operator capabilities.

Supervision of the laboratory function through effective interpersonal skills, communication, planning and standard setting.

- Ensure laboratory accreditation standards by ensuring methods and procedures are adhered to and amending methods where appropriate across all labs
- Host Laboratory accreditation assessment in a professional manner.
- Manage QA budget and compliance to AOP and identify cost saving opportunities for the department
- Ensure that proficiency schemes are maintained across all labs
- Achieve compliance at all external audits and accreditation
- To monitor all first production runs of any change ensuring that products are produced to the right standard
- Proactively educate and train all operators in the key quality tests.
- Participate actively in daily manufacturing review meetings to raise issues and drive the quality ethic strongly. Monitor the KPIs to drive zero defect philosophy
- Investigate complaint trends and implement preventive action to reduce/eliminate issues
- Participate actively in operations projects to ensure Quality is a key consideration to the project to deliver required results
- Liase with customers, suppliers and 3rd parties on all visits and audits
- Support the development and implement of site hygiene auditing / validation of CIP and hygiene processes ensuring standards across the site are defined and maintained
- Prepare and report agreed targets to the senior manufacturing team at monthly meetings
- Identify gaps for future improvements within the Quality function
- Proactively work with the other sites and central function to ensure consistency of standards maintained and improved
- Deliver improvement in First Time Quality % target
- Knowledge and experience of working within FMCG laboratory environment
- Knowledge and experience of quality systems and processes
- Previous involvement and exposure to audits with external bodies and customers, particularly laboratory accreditation.
- Effective communicator & thoroughly professional at all times, especially when dealing with customers.
- Good team-worker, prepared to help others & capable of detailed examination of information to ensure its accuracy
- Sound knowledge of Quality Assurance (QA) processes, specifically regarding the control of inbound products through the Supply Chain
- Demonstrable track record of managing a Quality Assurance (QA) and/or IQC function within the Supply Chain function
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship management skills
- Understanding and awareness of BRC, ISO 9001/2000 standards where they relate to our suppliers and co-packers
- effective understanding of Manufacturing technology and process and the quality risks associated with an FMCG company
- Excellent analytical skills, based on a logical, data-oriented, fact-based, thinking style. Ability to demonstrate working on own initiative and think through to solution.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven track record of effective communication at all levels within, and outside, the business.
- Able to develop and maintain excellent relationships with both colleagues and customers.
- Experience of Laboratory accreditation systems
