BASE SUPPORT SERVICES provide safe accommodation and support for 16 and 17 year old young people leaving care in various location's in central Cardiff.

We are looking for a Part Time Support Worker:

Responsible to: Operational Manager

Principal Duties: Ensuring the safe running and maintenance of the project and provide key worker support to specified young people

Main Duties

Safe House Management

  1. Monitor safety and security systems (incl. CCTV) in line with BASE policies.

  2. Ensure all access doors are locked after use.

  3. Use the projects recording systems to keep an accurate and meaningful log of events( ie Log book and display boards).

  4. Report, record and monitor all maintenance issues in accordance with the policies and procedures of BASE.

  5. Provide assistance with the general cleaning of communal areas and the clearing of flats when they become vacant to ensure a high standard is maintained.

  6. Identify when it may be necessary to call the police and maintain good relations with them should they need to attend an incident.

  7. Identify when an incident may have disturbed the neighbours, call on them as necessary and record details for other staff.

  8. Undertake and record routine maintenance and health and safety checks in accordance with BASE procedures or as directed.

  9. Routinely check on all rooms to make sure residents are safe.

Service Delivery

  • Record and handover the content of discussions with Service Users to other support staff/operational manager as necessary in line with BASE’s confidentiality procedure.

  • Enable service users who are in conflict with each other to resolve their differences through facilitated discussion if necessary.

  • Manage and act appropriately and in accordance with procedures when dealing with potentially violent or aggressive situations.

  • Encourage and support service users in working towards and achieving goals identified in support plans or sessions.

  • Actively promote and develop opportunities for service user participation within the project and the organisation.

  • Ensure that service users of the house are not breaking house rules and act appropriately should they refuse to modify their behaviour in accordance with BASE’s policy and procedure.

  • Participate in regular meetings with other support staff as appropriate
  • Participate in regular supervision and support and undertake training as identified or requested.

  • Participate in full team meetings as appropriate

General Duties

  • To positively promote and represent the interests of BASE to service users, partners and neighbours and to always conduct yourself in line with the Code of Conduct.

  • Comply with all BASE’s policies and procedures.

  • To familiarise yourself with all Health and Safety guidelines provided and help ensure that Health and Safety at Work Regulations are adhered to.

  • Any other duties as reasonably requested.
